Charles Gonzalez Bernal ( ) is a multidsciplinary artist with a background in theater and architecture, working in the fields of sculpture, installations, performing arts and bioart. His work is focussed on the space-body-nature relationship and the mutability of our perceptions. And particularly how to create art works that enable conections between all beings.
His concern for body and space lead him to create devices that invite to be lived in, to be enabled by the experience. In his work, space becomes a less representative and more perceptive event. It is to distinguish the geometric space and anthropological space as an experiential space. A spatiality without attributes to which the inhabitants, through its use, and meaningful up. That is many more sensations to experience that events to witness.
Since 2019 he is co-founder and artistic director of Studio Neotropico, a group of migrant artists and researchers who operate at the intersection of visual arts and science. Studio Neotropico understand its practice as an artistic bridge that emerges between human and non-human actors, where intercultural and interdisciplinary projects are generated.
Since 2017 joined to the team of Studio Tomas Saraceno, an ongoing research entity and intersection space in between art, architecture and sciences. Charles researches and produces new artworks and materials as well as room installation and spacial design.
In 2016 Charles`s collaboration with Studio Sam Causer, Blushing Pavilion –a temporary exhibition in a seaside shelter presenting 250 years of the intersection between architecture, seaside culture and sexuality in Margate, UK– was featured in the book New Architects 3, launched at The British Pavilion during the Venice Architecture Bienal, and was presented at Without Borders LGBTQ+ Archive, Libraries, Museums & Special Collections Conference in London.
